If you are looking for an excellent overview of Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) then this is your book. NLP was very trendy a few years ago, the main learning point is that people differ in how they interpret things. People tend to have a preference for one of the following modalities: visual (most common), auditory or kinaesthetic (touching). If you can detect what type of sensory modality is their preference then you can establish a better rapport with them by communicating in that modality. For example people with a preference for the visual modality may say “I see what you mean”, auditory “I hear what you are saying” and kinaesthetic “I have got to grips with this”. In addition patterns and pitches of speech are explored along with the depth of people’s breathing.
