The Art of Communicating by Thich Nhat Hanh

Excellent short book about mindfulness written by a Zen master Buddhist monk that I would highly recommend. Healthy communication is being compassionate, kind and mindful not to speak or listen to toxic conversations.  If you have to be exposed to a toxic conversation don’t absorb these.

Outlines ways to incorporate mindfulness to improve your relationship:
I am here for you

I have suffered too

These allow feelings of compassion to be generated.

If someone says you are good at something say you also have weaknesses to stay humble, equally if you are told you are bad at things say yes but am also good at things – this can be incorporated into self talk. Breathing techniques to focus on bringing you to the moment & also think before speaking is important.
